November 07 ARE YOU A DRUMMER LOOKING FOR A BAND TO PLAY WITH? Just thought I'd throw a few feelers out for any enthusiastic drummers in the Birmingham (uk) area who might be looking for a band to play with. If you are serious and passionate about your music and want to know more, just message me so I can put you in touch with my young friend. October 23 A VIRTUAL WORLD This last 2 weeks I've been playing an online game where I have a little animated person under my control in an imaginary virtual world. In this game there are other animated persons being controlled by other people just like me, at home or in a cyber cafe or anywhere else for that matter. Now to people who are anti-computers and see games like the one I describe soon as a complete waste of time, I don't suppose they will really be open to seeing any benefits. However, I find that I am learning greetings in different languages, as the other controllers are from such a diverse range of countries and we try to communicate with each other via our animated people. I have improved my geography as I've been looking on maps to see where people I meet come from. Some of the people from other parts of the world have now linked up with me on social sites in the real world which is great. It's a far more interesting and fun way to learn other languages. We also have a range of expressions and actions that help us to communicate emotions in the game. The virtual world has other games and activities included within it and the currency has to be earned via work at a factory or playing the games, several of which you have to do with other people, therefore encouraging interaction. I have noticed that the majority of people are keen to help each other, out as many activities are about co-operation. I guess the game is a bit of a novelty for me at the moment and sometimes it can be so funny, but also it allows for people to re-create themselves, such as the person who's wheelchair bound in the real world but is able to be included equally without prejudice within this virtual world. September 27 KIRSTY'S CUSTOMIZED RAVING BOOTS![]() I'm often asked if my son and daughter are artistic like me. I think they are but their creativity shows in different ways. So, I thought I'd show you Kirsty's customized boots that she wears to raves. These boots were plain white to begin with and now are pink and white....unique I say. The writing on them is special, and reflects important things happening in her life. August 31 KIRSTY, LOUISE & BABY LIAM - BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND-2009What a great time with my VIPs staying for the weekend. With shopping in Norwich on Saturday and the Sunday in Cromer giving baby Liam, who's almost 5 months old, opportunities of experiencing many firsts., including the sandy beach ,and did he love the texture of sand on his feet!, a bus journey and a visit to The Little Gem Shop where many beautiful crystals can be seen and bought, greeted by my very special Crystal Healer friend Kathy who works in the shop. We also paid a visit to The Sticky Earth Cafe where we got little Liam's feet printed onto a pottery tile as a keep sake. I'm going to collect it in the week once it's been fired. In the evenings we had fun on the computer with a video link to my son, and to his girlfriend but Steven had some additional functions on his web cam that did amazing effects and we were doubled up laughing!!! The house has gone quiet again and I'm thinking 'did I dream it?' but no, the time went quick as we did loads of things, so now it's all in the 'nice memories store' in my head. August 26 WEST HAM v MILLWALL- LONDON DERBY It's one of those times when I'm glad I hadn't heard the news last night, otherwise I'd have had a longer period of worry. As it was, this morning I just vaguely heard a reference on TV about there being big trouble at the West Ham ground last night where I knew my daughter had gone. So, I was a bit horrified to see snippets both visual and written, about the clashes between the opposing fans and police. I couldn't get my daughter or any of her friends by phone today, and nobody had updated news on facebook, so imagine my relief when I'd finally found out she and her friends were all fine late afternoon. Phew!! It's sad to think that many others may not have had the same satisfaction of having their offspring return home without injury. My daughter told me that although she was where the most trouble appeared to be, all the men made sure that she was kept out of harm's way to her surprise..... but for me remembering the battlefields of the past, I was glad to hear that at least any women caught up in the disturbances were protected and ushered out of harm's way. WHERE DOES ALL THIS ANGER COME FROM???? August 24 CROMER CARNIVAL WEEK 2009 The carnival started off with it's usual giant boot sale on the cliff top. This year the weather was great, but it was extra windy so in the end this made some of the sellers pack up early as it was difficult to manage anything fragile. It was good for a browse around and I picked up a few things although I can only remember what one of them was.... oh dear, my poor memory I didn't really spend much time at the carnival this week, preferring to remain in the quietness of my home on the edge of town. However when the Red Arrows came to perform, I realised that despite a lot of low flying over the sea, I was able to see a fair bit from my garden so here's a couple of pictures. I must admit it was hard to get these as the Arrows fly sooooooooo fast and I didn't know where they were going to appear next in the sky. In the evening I waited for a non-existent bus, I'd completely forgot that the roads were closed off ready for the huge Carnival Parade. Fortunately I met a couple of neighbours that I didn't know and got chatting then, they showed me a new way to walk into town, and rather beautiful it was too. Went downhill through a long tunnel of greenery and came out in the centre of Cromer where the streets were already heavily lined with excited people. It took me a while to get through the crowds, but I made it in the end and found my London friends who were staying in the town. I didn't have a very good view of all the floats as I didn't want to get in the way of the little children, but I thought this Ladybird float was very apt for Cromer, since days earlier we had been plagued by them in their thousands and still have a 'higher than average' amount of the little red bugs around the area. August 17 SEALS AT BLAKENEY POINT AGAIN! A beautiful hot sunny day with a gentle sea and clear blue skies, so perfect for another trip to see the seals at Blakeney Point. This time we chose ' Temple' for an afternoon trip with a half hour stop on the island. The trip was lovely despite having loads of boats active in the area and it was good to see that there were still some white fluffy pups around even though it was past their main breeding time. August 05 "It's a heatwave!" The UK weather this year has been great for a lot of insects and butterflies. I've taken lots of photographs in the garden, but oh was I sad to see the amount of aphids on my Victoria Plum tree..... I was thinking that there were just too many of them to deal with.... then next day I looked and there were loads of ladybirds, a far better option than anything else to keep the aphids at bay. So, with that dealt with, I walked into town Monday and by the time I'd got there my clothing was decorated with red ladybirds all over, they were swarming everywhere and heaps of them against the kerbstones......... they're quite slow flying but I had to keep ducking to avoid them still. Then I was thinking of going down to the pier but I heard people saying that there was a swarm of wasps there, so I thought I'd give it a miss after all. I'm going to put a link here if you want to see some of my butterfly photos but don't take too much notice of anything else as I've only just started that portfolio. http://arisingmoon.daportfolio.com/gallery/103076 My studio has been full of hoverflies this week. I don't mind them too much as they don't seem to do anything horrible apart from making a lot of noise from hitting the carbonated roof but it is unsual to have so many of them flying around. I'm beginning to wonder what will turn up next!!!! Oh summertime, don't you just love it? July 18 NEW AGE WEBSITE Following a link about Psychic Art I came across a New Age site that I felt compelled to join. I was really surprised to discover that it's a newish site and only has a small membership, but the people seem to be friendly and interesting. The site is concerned with all matters relating to spirit and working for the highest good of the planet and mandkind. It's so nice to find an on-line community that's small enough to actually get to know everyone, but that's what I'm hoping to do, both to learn, and to share. New-Age.net.au July 09 MC SHABBA D & RaVeRbAbYReflecting on life a bit at the moment and thinking how strange and surreal some things seem. Now, those that are familiar with my Kirsty, will KNOW just how important music, particularly jungle, D&B and going to raves is to her, so what more could she want than having a birthday celebration of a mini rave with her fave music and a big name presence like Mc Shabba D!! Well this is what she was determined to have for her 24th birthday. Way back it looked like the party was gona be a real possibility, then the planned venue fell through and all plans went from bad to worse and days before the event she was gona call it all off. Eventually an alternative venue was found, not ideal, because the venue wanted to use their dj and Kirsty had a couple of her own, including Daft Fader.. anyhow, it went ahead and Mc Shabba D was due to arrive for a 9pm stint........ omg! I was so hoping that she wasn't going to be disappointed because lots of her mates were telling me that they didn't think he was gona turn up, he was too big a name to come to her little 'party night' BUT HE DID!!! It was probably the smallest and most unsupportive venue the guy had ever attended, but the joy on Kirsty's face as she took to the dance floor and lost herself in the moments, was priceless. I'm so grateful to everyone who helped make Kirsty's evening special, but sorry that the venue didn't provide the ideal environment and atmosphere for Kirsty or Mc Shabba D So mad that all my photos came out so ![]() Hyrum,Daft Fader(Josh Kingsley),Mc Shabba D & Kirsty Hammans http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVaSbU9BMYA&feature=related June 16 PEOPLE WHO HAVE A LOVE OF NORFOLKI want to promote this site and hope that others will join and contribute anything of interest. Visit i-sky-norfolk June 08 UKCPS Having been a non-active member of UK coloured pencil society for some years I thought it was about time to do something about it. I've just joined the UKCPS Yahoo Group and have been so pleased with the warm welcome I've had in becoming one of their new members. There is some amazing art work in the albums, reflecting many different styles, interests and abilities and is so inspiring to see such lovely pictures, it's started to make me want to get out all my coloured pencils and get a new piece of work on the go. It's great to see how people are prepared to share their experiences and I was surprised at the range of surfaces that people used as a support. I already have my favourites but I'm definitely tempted to experiment on other ones to see how different surfaces affect the final results. All exciting stuff for an artist believe me! June 07 GOING PLACES IN NORFOLKToday I went out with my friend Anna to visit a few places in Norfolk. Anna is known in the area for organising Craft Fairs over the last couple of years, but now she is concentrating on designing and making jewellery. Anna is multi skilled, and very talented in a number of crafts, but her speciality is jewellery created primarily from glass and silver. Anna hand crafts many of the beads she uses in her jewellery working the glass in high temperatures and adding intricate patterns by the use of different colours and techniques. So today, I accompanied Anna taking her jewellery to The Gallery@Horning (in the Broads). Not only was this a gallery with beautiful handcrafted goods, paintings and photographs but also a deli serving delicious food to eat in or take away. I had an amazing cock-a-leekie pastie with salad and couldn't resist buying a blackberry and apple pie to take home with me too. z We also visited Alby Crafts, a collection of working studios, gallery, shops, and a tea room. We had a look around and chatted with Sue who makes the Lli Mai jewellery and then made our way to see Helen C.Dixon, sculptor as Anna wanted to ask a few questions about firing and materials. Helen was really helpful in giving her time, and I was enjoying looking at her beautiful sculptures and seeing the many versions of the Green Man. There is also the possibility of Helen creating a Green Man of somebody you know.......how cool is that?! x This is a picture of Helen and Anna http://www.helendixon.co.uk I thought this was a lovely sculpture in the garden ......... pity about the white streaks though. June 04 ARTHUR FINDLEY COLLEGE-Stanstead As I've been so tied up with my Open Studio event, I never got around to writing about my visit to The Arthur Findley Training college for mediumship and healing., which also offers
residential study courses covering the philosophy associated with the
religion of Spiritualism. This was somewhere I'd wanted to go to since I was a teenager and as I had some friends going there to an Open Day I went too. At first I was struck by the beautiful house and gardens and the feeling of being engulfed in countryside, yet we were only a short distance from the M11 The Open Day provided a number of Mediums to give private readings/sittings as well as the larger group events that you could opt into throughout the day. Since I'm sometimes used for 'psychic portraits' of guides and loved ones in spirit and to provide 'evidence of survival', I decided to have a sitting with Alan Stuttle, a psychic artist, partly for seeing who would appear in the drawing for me, but also to see his way of working. I have seen a number of psychic artists at work in the past such as Bill Forrester but also in the 1970s the famous Coral Podge, so being an artist myself, I always find these demonstrations or sittings interesting. Firstly I attended a large group where a medium and psychic artist worked together. The drawing was being carried out with pen and an overhead projector. I had seen an overhead projector used this way before, and it enables the drawing process to be viewed better by the audience, who might recognise the person being drawn. It was interesting to observe, but I did feel that the demonstration of Clairvoyance didn't seem to gel well with what was being drawn, although the recipients of the messages anmd portrait did seem to find everything relevant to their lives. The colleg has a lovely little shop where you can buy from a good range of books, meditation & music cds and other gifts. As the range of material is not commonly found in other places I was tempted to spend a fair bit, but REALLY PLEASED with what I bought. I attended another group where there were 2 mediums giving clairvoyance and one of these women was particularly good as well as being entertaining in her delivery, sadly I had to leave before the end as my private sitting with Alan Stuttle co-incided. This also meant that I couldn't attend the groups about Trance Mediumship which was something I'd like to have done. Once I arrived for my sitting, which turned out to be in the 'loft' and difficult to find, I was warmly greeted and asked if I had a tape to record the session. I'm not going to gointo a lot of detail, but just to tell you that I came away with a lovely pastel portrait drawing of my late uncle, and a tape with all that was spoken between us and why he had come to me now. The description of my uncle captured the essence of how I knew him, with his sense of humour and his personality and the drawing itself appeared to show him at an earlier stage in life, which is often the case with psychic portraits. I'm reminded of the time somebody told me that she knew I could draw her late husband, I wasn't so sure but nevertheless decided to try. Well, the person who appeared in the portrait she said was not her husband but still looked familiar........ a few weeks later, I learned that it WAS her late husband, only he showed himself as a young man in the portrait and she didn't know him back then . It only came to light when she found an old photo. So, I guess this was actually a more convincing way of giving 'evidence of survival' plus it's the one and only time I ever met that lady. I was able to attend another demonstration of clairvoyance before leaving. The day went by quickly but it was a lovely visit, and so nice to see such a beautiful house and sanctuary. Will I ever go there again? Somehow I have a feeling that it was not my one and only time. June 01 REFLECTING BACK ON MY OPEN STUDIO Well as it's been my first Open
Studio I took notes on all the things that weren't so good to help me
plan better if I decide to do it all again next year. There were quite a few things I could've done better, but over all I felt the whole event went well for me. Being on the edge of town, I didn't get the 'drop ins' like I would have had, if I lived in town. The 37 visitors who came, had all chosen to come to see my work specifically from the brochure........ and I certainly did have some interesting, and lovely comments in my guest book! Plus, I also sold enough work to pay for the 'particpation.' and I think there's likely to be 'spin offs' 'cos what people were enquiring about may be tomorrow's commisioned pieces. To round off the 2 weeks of open Studio I had a last minute small gathering yesterday for a little celebration, which was all rather lovely. A big THANK YOU to all the people who helped to make my event a success, with their support and encouragement! AND a big THANK YOU to all the people who made time to come and see my art work and meet me. It was lovely to meet you all. May 30 MY OPEN STUDIO Last chance for you to come and see me, and my art work at the Open Studio is tomorrow. I've had quite a few visitors throughout this 2 weeks, and my work seemed to have attracted some particularly lovely people. Some attracted by the obviously 'mystical' content but also those who are starting out with their art and want to discuss techniques and others who are already artists or teachers. So an enjoyable time for me to be meeting the public art lovers. In the process of setting up my Open Studio I've learned a lot, so will be far better prepared if I decide to do the event again next year. I must say, I was particularly surprised that one of my visitors asked if she could weed the section of my garden next to my studio......... how lovely was that? Of course I allowed her to do this and was truly grateful..Oh well, now I'll just have to see what the day brings, but being hot and sunny, I have a feeling that many folk would rather be on the beach than visiting studios!.... we shall see. May 28 Talking about YouTube - HOMEWORLD (Feature Film Trailer) My son Steve worked as part of the film crew for Philip Hudson's Homeworld, a low budget sci-fi movie Quote YouTube - HOMEWORLD (Feature Film Trailer) May 26 NORFOLK As we're coming up to the holiday season, I thought I'd reccomend a new-ish site that aims to share various aspects of Norfolk life that will be of interest to others:- http://i-sky-norfolk.ning.com/ If you're a regular visitor or live in the area, then it would be lovely if you could join and contribute your experiences to the site. The more contributers, the better the content will be, or may be you would just like to make suggestions to Victoria about subjects of interest to include. May 16 NORFOLK OPEN STUDIOS including MINE!! Well, after much hard work to be ready for the start of my Open Studio I haven't had one visitor yet!! and to think I only had a few hours sleep.... should have had a lie in.......As it's my first open studio I don't really know what to expect. So, if you're up around Cromer and fancy looking at some art work, all the details you need are in the April 27 OH WHAT FUN!! PREPARATION Yes, fun! I'm moving all sorts of things around to make space for my Open Studio and in the process, discovering many things I'd lost, or forgotten about. I've got a vague plan of how I'm going to display my completed pictures, but as I'm intending to enable visitors to watch me working, I've got to allow myself working space for the different types of art that I do. To have left everything as it is in my studio, just wasn't an option from a health and safety viewpoint. On-going and unfinished pieces that I will be working on throughout the 2 weeks will include oil or acrylic painting on canvas, water colour painting, mixed media collage, and pure water soluable pencil pieces. I'll be happy to offer any advice on materials and the creative process but of course there are many varied ways of working and many artists have their preferences, usually there's not a right way of doing something, just a different way. With so many materials available today, it can be hard choosing what things you will need if you want to set yourself up with art as a new hobby so if visitors want to know more, I'm willing to share my thoughts with you. I'm really looking forward to meeting and chatting to visitors. April 14 THE GARDEN HOUSE GALLERY- ANGEL EYESThe Garden House Gallery in Cromer, Norfolk, is running a 'taster' exhibition between 19th April and 4th May 2009 which will include works form North Norfolk Artists who will be patricipating in the Norfolk Open Studios.*** *** ***This is a detail from ANGEL EYES which is the picture I've chosen to represent my art at the above exhibition at The Garden House Gallery. My own Open Studio in May, will include the full ANGEL SERIES of mixed media pictures which will be shown together for the first time. http://arisingmoon.deviantart.com/gallery/#Angel-Series-mixed-media ![]() www.garden-house-gallery.co.uk March 17 NORFOLK OPEN STUDIOS Hey there! just giving you some prior warning that the annual Norfolk Open Studios Event is running for the last 2 weeks of May i.e. 16th--31st May 2009 and this year I will be Opening my studio to the public for the first time Brochures of the event listing all the participating artists will be available from April 1st 2009 I'm an artist who uses varied techniques and materials in my work, so I expect my artwork will have some fascination to people who like something a little bit different from a traditional painting style ( although some of my art will fall into the traditional style as well).I'm not putting on any set demonstration times, but I have decided that I will be working in my studio at times so anyone can watch and ask questions if they want to.Art work on display will include pastels, drawings, pure coloured pencil work, paintings in oils, acrylics, watercolours, mixed media, collage and hand embellished prints. As I'm a keen photographer, there will be some photography on display too and may be some crafts as well. More details to follow nearer the time.Oh and just to remind you I'm an artist of 'otherworldly' subjects.....angels, fairies, mermaids......... and naturehttp://www.qype.co.uk/mypage/reviews -to see full articles
