June 16 PEOPLE WHO HAVE A LOVE OF NORFOLKI want to promote this site and hope that others will join and contribute anything of interest. Visit i-sky-norfolk June 08 UKCPS Having been a non-active member of UK coloured pencil society for some years I thought it was about time to do something about it. I've just joined the UKCPS Yahoo Group and have been so pleased with the warm welcome I've had in becoming one of their new members. There is some amazing art work in the albums, reflecting many different styles, interests and abilities and is so inspiring to see such lovely pictures, it's started to make me want to get out all my coloured pencils and get a new piece of work on the go. It's great to see how people are prepared to share their experiences and I was surprised at the range of surfaces that people used as a support. I already have my favourites but I'm definitely tempted to experiment on other ones to see how different surfaces affect the final results. All exciting stuff for an artist believe me! June 07 GOING PLACES IN NORFOLKToday I went out with my friend Anna to visit a few places in Norfolk. Anna is known in the area for organising Craft Fairs over the last couple of years, but now she is concentrating on designing and making jewellery. Anna is multi skilled, and very talented in a number of crafts, but her speciality is jewellery created primarily from glass and silver. Anna hand crafts many of the beads she uses in her jewellery working the glass in high temperatures and adding intricate patterns by the use of different colours and techniques. So today, I accompanied Anna taking her jewellery to The Gallery@Horning (in the Broads). Not only was this a gallery with beautiful handcrafted goods, paintings and photographs but also a deli serving delicious food to eat in or take away. I had an amazing cock-a-leekie pastie with salad and couldn't resist buying a blackberry and apple pie to take home with me too. z We also visited Alby Crafts, a collection of working studios, gallery, shops, and a tea room. We had a look around and chatted with Sue who makes the Lli Mai jewellery and then made our way to see Helen C.Dixon, sculptor as Anna wanted to ask a few questions about firing and materials. Helen was really helpful in giving her time, and I was enjoying looking at her beautiful sculptures and seeing the many versions of the Green Man. There is also the possibility of Helen creating a Green Man of somebody you know.......how cool is that?! x This is a picture of Helen and Anna http://www.helendixon.co.uk I thought this was a lovely sculpture in the garden ......... pity about the white streaks though. June 04 ARTHUR FINDLEY COLLEGE-Stanstead As I've been so tied up with my Open Studio event, I never got around to writing about my visit to The Arthur Findley Training college for mediumship and healing., which also offers
residential study courses covering the philosophy associated with the
religion of Spiritualism. This was somewhere I'd wanted to go to since I was a teenager and as I had some friends going there to an Open Day I went too. At first I was struck by the beautiful house and gardens and the feeling of being engulfed in countryside, yet we were only a short distance from the M11 The Open Day provided a number of Mediums to give private readings/sittings as well as the larger group events that you could opt into throughout the day. Since I'm sometimes used for 'psychic portraits' of guides and loved ones in spirit and to provide 'evidence of survival', I decided to have a sitting with Alan Stuttle, a psychic artist, partly for seeing who would appear in the drawing for me, but also to see his way of working. I have seen a number of psychic artists at work in the past such as Bill Forrester but also in the 1970s the famous Coral Podge, so being an artist myself, I always find these demonstrations or sittings interesting. Firstly I attended a large group where a medium and psychic artist worked together. The drawing was being carried out with pen and an overhead projector. I had seen an overhead projector used this way before, and it enables the drawing process to be viewed better by the audience, who might recognise the person being drawn. It was interesting to observe, but I did feel that the demonstration of Clairvoyance didn't seem to gel well with what was being drawn, although the recipients of the messages anmd portrait did seem to find everything relevant to their lives. The colleg has a lovely little shop where you can buy from a good range of books, meditation & music cds and other gifts. As the range of material is not commonly found in other places I was tempted to spend a fair bit, but REALLY PLEASED with what I bought. I attended another group where there were 2 mediums giving clairvoyance and one of these women was particularly good as well as being entertaining in her delivery, sadly I had to leave before the end as my private sitting with Alan Stuttle co-incided. This also meant that I couldn't attend the groups about Trance Mediumship which was something I'd like to have done. Once I arrived for my sitting, which turned out to be in the 'loft' and difficult to find, I was warmly greeted and asked if I had a tape to record the session. I'm not going to gointo a lot of detail, but just to tell you that I came away with a lovely pastel portrait drawing of my late uncle, and a tape with all that was spoken between us and why he had come to me now. The description of my uncle captured the essence of how I knew him, with his sense of humour and his personality and the drawing itself appeared to show him at an earlier stage in life, which is often the case with psychic portraits. I'm reminded of the time somebody told me that she knew I could draw her late husband, I wasn't so sure but nevertheless decided to try. Well, the person who appeared in the portrait she said was not her husband but still looked familiar........ a few weeks later, I learned that it WAS her late husband, only he showed himself as a young man in the portrait and she didn't know him back then . It only came to light when she found an old photo. So, I guess this was actually a more convincing way of giving 'evidence of survival' plus it's the one and only time I ever met that lady. I was able to attend another demonstration of clairvoyance before leaving. The day went by quickly but it was a lovely visit, and so nice to see such a beautiful house and sanctuary. Will I ever go there again? Somehow I have a feeling that it was not my one and only time. June 01 REFLECTING BACK ON MY OPEN STUDIO Well as it's been my first Open
Studio I took notes on all the things that weren't so good to help me
plan better if I decide to do it all again next year. There were quite a few things I could've done better, but over all I felt the whole event went well for me. Being on the edge of town, I didn't get the 'drop ins' like I would have had, if I lived in town. The 37 visitors who came, had all chosen to come to see my work specifically from the brochure........ and I certainly did have some interesting, and lovely comments in my guest book! Plus, I also sold enough work to pay for the 'particpation.' and I think there's likely to be 'spin offs' 'cos what people were enquiring about may be tomorrow's commisioned pieces. To round off the 2 weeks of open Studio I had a last minute small gathering yesterday for a little celebration, which was all rather lovely. A big THANK YOU to all the people who helped to make my event a success, with their support and encouragement! AND a big THANK YOU to all the people who made time to come and see my art work and meet me. It was lovely to meet you all. May 30 MY OPEN STUDIO Last chance for you to come and see me, and my art work at the Open Studio is tomorrow. I've had quite a few visitors throughout this 2 weeks, and my work seemed to have attracted some particularly lovely people. Some attracted by the obviously 'mystical' content but also those who are starting out with their art and want to discuss techniques and others who are already artists or teachers. So an enjoyable time for me to be meeting the public art lovers. In the process of setting up my Open Studio I've learned a lot, so will be far better prepared if I decide to do the event again next year. I must say, I was particularly surprised that one of my visitors asked if she could weed the section of my garden next to my studio......... how lovely was that? Of course I allowed her to do this and was truly grateful..Oh well, now I'll just have to see what the day brings, but being hot and sunny, I have a feeling that many folk would rather be on the beach than visiting studios!.... we shall see. May 28 Talking about YouTube - HOMEWORLD (Feature Film Trailer) My son Steve worked as part of the film crew for Philip Hudson's Homeworld, a low budget sci-fi movie Quote YouTube - HOMEWORLD (Feature Film Trailer) May 26 NORFOLK As we're coming up to the holiday season, I thought I'd reccomend a new-ish site that aims to share various aspects of Norfolk life that will be of interest to others:- http://i-sky-norfolk.ning.com/ If you're a regular visitor or live in the area, then it would be lovely if you could join and contribute your experiences to the site. The more contributers, the better the content will be, or may be you would just like to make suggestions to Victoria about subjects of interest to include. May 16 NORFOLK OPEN STUDIOS including MINE!! Well, after much hard work to be ready for the start of my Open Studio I haven't had one visitor yet!! and to think I only had a few hours sleep.... should have had a lie in.......As it's my first open studio I don't really know what to expect. So, if you're up around Cromer and fancy looking at some art work, all the details you need are in the April 27 OH WHAT FUN!! PREPARATION Yes, fun! I'm moving all sorts of things around to make space for my Open Studio and in the process, discovering many things I'd lost, or forgotten about. I've got a vague plan of how I'm going to display my completed pictures, but as I'm intending to enable visitors to watch me working, I've got to allow myself working space for the different types of art that I do. To have left everything as it is in my studio, just wasn't an option from a health and safety viewpoint. On-going and unfinished pieces that I will be working on throughout the 2 weeks will include oil or acrylic painting on canvas, water colour painting, mixed media collage, and pure water soluable pencil pieces. I'll be happy to offer any advice on materials and the creative process but of course there are many varied ways of working and many artists have their preferences, usually there's not a right way of doing something, just a different way. With so many materials available today, it can be hard choosing what things you will need if you want to set yourself up with art as a new hobby so if visitors want to know more, I'm willing to share my thoughts with you. I'm really looking forward to meeting and chatting to visitors. April 14 THE GARDEN HOUSE GALLERY- ANGEL EYESThe Garden House Gallery in Cromer, Norfolk, is running a 'taster' exhibition between 19th April and 4th May 2009 which will include works form North Norfolk Artists who will be patricipating in the Norfolk Open Studios.*** *** ***This is a detail from ANGEL EYES which is the picture I've chosen to represent my art at the above exhibition at The Garden House Gallery. My own Open Studio in May, will include the full ANGEL SERIES of mixed media pictures which will be shown together for the first time. http://arisingmoon.deviantart.com/gallery/#Angel-Series-mixed-media ![]() www.garden-house-gallery.co.uk March 17 NORFOLK OPEN STUDIOS Hey there! just giving you some prior warning that the annual Norfolk Open Studios Event is running for the last 2 weeks of May i.e. 16th--31st May 2009 and this year I will be Opening my studio to the public for the first time Brochures of the event listing all the participating artists will be available from April 1st 2009 I'm an artist who uses varied techniques and materials in my work, so I expect my artwork will have some fascination to people who like something a little bit different from a traditional painting style ( although some of my art will fall into the traditional style as well).I'm not putting on any set demonstration times, but I have decided that I will be working in my studio at times so anyone can watch and ask questions if they want to.Art work on display will include pastels, drawings, pure coloured pencil work, paintings in oils, acrylics, watercolours, mixed media, collage and hand embellished prints. As I'm a keen photographer, there will be some photography on display too and may be some crafts as well. More details to follow nearer the time.Oh and just to remind you I'm an artist of 'otherworldly' subjects.....angels, fairies, mermaids......... and natureFebruary 19 The Deathly SleepThe Deathly Sleepby Sue HammansThe colour of blood, so deep. A figure moving, slowly, Towards a grey stone arch. Head bowed in mournful tone, the man began to weep. The smell of night scented stocks and hollyhocks, Lie heavy in the air, And sounds of his own footsteps, Were more than he could bear. Across the now dark graveyard, The colour of night, so black. The figure bends down, slowly, Towards a green grass mound, Haunting memories of times so sweet, he wished he'd had some more. A teardrop falls upon his hand, His withered fingers shine. So sad to say 'goodbye' to the loving soul he'd found. As the moon arises with the setting of the sun The man gently places a red rosebud, and then pulls out a gun, he sighs, 'She really was the ONE' February 05 COSTOCHONDRITIS I've been having this 'niggling pain' gnawing away at my side for months, but recently it started to give me a more intense pain and it'd be the first thing I'd wake up to. Anyhow, by this time I thought I might have got a kidney stone AGAIN so went to see the Dr. who after a lot of questions and prodding about, he told me I'd got COSTOCHONDRITIS. I told him he'd given me the 'hump' now as it was yet another condition I've got of which PAIN is the main symptom. After all this going on yesterday it was such a beautiful day, I went along the cliff top to watch the sea for a while and then take some photos in and around the park. September 24 GIBRALTAR and MOROCCO I could write loads about my holiday but I'm going to limit what I write, and rely on the photos loaded on here and the link to my other storage spaces on the web. My holiday was an 8 day break to Gibraltar during which time I went on an organised day trip to Morocco, which is where I'm going to start. To get to Morocco, it meant walking through the frontier into Spain where we were able to hire a cab to take us to the port where we were booked onto a ferry. In Morocco we were met by a coach and tour guide and were in their hands after this as to everywhere we went. What struck me particularly about Morocco was the smell, from the moment we arrived in Africa there was a distinctive smell about the country that was present the whole time. It was a new smell to me but not one I liked, although in some areas there were other more unpleasant smells. As we were having a lunch included in our trip, I was dreading what was going to be laid on but it turned out to be ok, and I didn't get a tummy bug so all was well. Funny thing, we were led around all these alleyways and market stalls but when it was time to eat, we were taken through this door and the interior of the place we'd come to eat was like a palace. It even had 2 golden chairs, and a stained glass panel in the ceiling. The huge chandeliers were funny, as they looked quite old and yet they were filled with lots of low energy light bulbs. The trip was fast moving as the tour guide seemed to be rushing us everywhere and I had a job to keep up, and would have liked to spend more time looking at things, but we were really herded into places where there was a lot of pressure to buy things. 2 of my mates ended up buying carpets they had no intention of buying ! ha! I managed to plan how I was going to deal with the sellers and it worked. The only thing I bought was a geode (a rock) with crystals from a man in the street of Tanger, he lied to me, telling me it was amethyst but I knew the inside had been coloured but it was still worth what I paid for it as it was pretty and I collect rocks and crystals. I gave one half to my dad and kept the other. On return I asked my knowledgeable friend from the Little Gem crystal shop how it was done and discovered it was painted rather than dyed, but I was right about it being Moroccan quartz crystal and a fair price for the size. So at least I didn't have a feeling of being conned. In Gibraltar itself, we went on a tour up the rock, and it was there that all the apes are kept and cared for by the military, would you believe. We saw escape tunnels and loads of canons in one area. At another area there were caves with stalactites and stalagmites, and as the caverns were so huge they had built a concert theatre inside. I bet it would be amazing to listen to a concert in such surroundings. Although everyone is warned about the apes, we saw one of them fly through the front window of a car, snatch a bagel from someone on the back seat and fly out the opposite window, it acted so fast. Then there was gift shop and snack bar, and one ape had been sitting on the roof watching inside and snatched sandwiches from a pregnant woman as her partner was handing it to her. I was lucky, as I bought an ice lolly but the driver closed all the windows so I could eat it in peace. My friend paid for my trip to see the dolphins as a belated birthday gift, and it was fantastic. The weather that day was perfect for seeing them and also being on a boat. I loved every minute of it, but sadly I couldn't catch them on film, but so wonderful to see lots of dolphins all jumping out of the water at the same time. In the marina where the boat was moored, there were enormous multi million pound yachts, not just one, but lots, so amazing. If you hadn't guessed yet, I love being on boats (at sea more than rivers). CHINESE VISITORSI just want to say HELLO! to the Chinese person/s who visit 'mirrorspace' from http://www.baidu.com, WELCOME September 17 GIBRALTAR, SPAIN & MOROCCOI've been travelling for a bit this last few weeks and have just returned home. I've got a business circle meeting in the morning and a few other essential jobs, so it will probably be Friday when I can load up a few pictures and share some of my thoughts about my travels. Fortunately, I did manage to cope with the higher temperatures and never suffered any ill effects from anything eaten or drunk, although now it feels like it was all a dream. September 01 MEETING MY VERY SPECIAL FRIEND I've come to London for a few days and was keen to meet L.so today we met in Walthamstow High Street. We've been friends for around 20 years. We always have a good time catching up on our news, but 3 years ago L. was on the Kings Cross train that got bombed, and her life has never been the same since. I am so aware that if I hadn't taken early retirement the previous year, I too would have been on the same train with her, so I thank my blessings that I was saved from this horriffic event. L has post traumatic stress disorder and has always been a strong person, but now the images haunt her and she has flash backs, nightmares and lacks concentration. I remember the day 2 weeks later I had to attend an appointment at Barts Hospital for research on ovarian cancer, and was amazed that L was in Covent Garden, she bravely felt that she needed to face the demons and use the underground I told her that I could be with her shortly if she wanted, but instead we kept phone contact. Do you remember the Kings Cross fire some years before 7/7? Well, L was there too and had just got out of the station before the fireball August 30 EVERYTHING IS BORROWED The words are 'ace' Well done Mike! The Streets-Mike Skinner How true that we come into this world naked and bare and although we use many things we cannot take them with us when we depart from this life. In our earth life we are spirit with a body, not body with spirit. I am greatly saddened by my daughter's current situation, that of homelessness, she won't come to live in Norfolk with me as she likes London life. Having just got thrown out of her last 'crash place' with bad terms, she now has virtually nothing but the clothes on her back and she says her stuff was smashed up. I thought the video of the bailiffs removing everything from the house had a similar feel to one's possessions being taken away as in my daughter's situation. August 22 EYE CYST---BLEPHARITIS/CHALAZION/MEIBOMITIS Just thought I'd update you regarding my
lower eyelid. I was prescribed Chloramphenicol eye ointment to be used
4 times a day for one week. So now that has finished I'm feeling my eye
is getting back to normal. I hated using the ointment as it causes
discomfort being thick and sticky. I don't know why they can't make
some of these ointments into drops which are so much easier to use! My
eye looks normal and is painfree, and I can just feel a slight bump
where the cyst was and hope that this is just scar tissue and part of
the healing process. http://www.qype.co.uk/mypage/reviews -to see full articles
